Magnetic Flow Meter
Magnetic flow meter is basically used for water applications. It offers reliable and accurate measurement. It can efficiently and reliably detect an empty pipe. Also, it has a low maintenance cost for calibration. A Mag flow meter has two coils, one is placed at the top and the other is placed at the bottom of the flow tube which is compelled by the transmitter for the generation of pulsed magnetic field to coherent strength.
Mag meter follows the principle of Faraday’s Law. The law states that when a conductor is passing through a magnetic field it makes a voltage which is directly proportional to the conductor’s velocity.
Ultrasonic Flow Meter
An ultrasonic flow meter is used for waste water applications and also for other dirty
liquids. It does not work with gas or gaseous substance. It is basically a volumetric flow meter and is beneficial for low pressure drops. It involves low maintenance cost.
Ultrasonic Flow Meter works on the frequency of the ultrasonic signals which are reflected by fluid in motion. The basic phenomenon of this flow meter is the sound waves that change frequency due to the reflection of moving discontinuities in liquids. Ultrasonic sound is also transmitted into a pipe. This discontinuity in liquid reflects the ultrasonic waves with different frequency which is directly proportional to liquid flowing rate.
There are three types of ultrasonic flow meters – Transmission flow meter, Open-channel flow meter and Reflection or Doppler flow meter.
Turbine Flow Meter
Turbine Flow Meter is used for measuring natural gas and liquid flow. It translates the mechanical action of the turbine rotating in the liquid flow around an axis into a readable rate of flow. The turbine wheel is placed in the path of a fluid stream. The flowing liquid gets in contact with the turbine blades, thus, imparting a force to the blade surface and setting the rotor in motion
Turbine meters are made of cast iron, bronze or ductile iron. Fire meters are used for high flow rates required in fire protection.
