In June of 1965 we went to Florida for what would become a yearly migration for me until 1971. That first year we spent some time with dad’s ex partner in their race shop in Havana Cuba. The double entrance doors were massive, 18 feet high 12 feet wide. The doors were supported by piano style hinges that ran the complete height of the doors but were not visible. If I recall each hinge was comprised of 1000 ball bearings. These doors that weighed tons were abled to be pushed open and closed with one finger. Even the locking mechanism were made with ball bearings.. So what happens when you get a Physicist/Mathematician and a Architect/Engineer together to find a special car for the oldest son to take to college? You end up looking at many rare and special cars. Ferrari Testarossa from the early 1950’s to nearly new Jaguars.After a dozen or so cars that just did not meet all the criteria there was a lead that a Pan Am pilot wanted to sell his right had drive Aston Martin DB2 MK3 Vantage ex works race car. The pilot said he needed to sell it as the pilots were on strike and he needed the money to live. He also informed us he had done some modifications for autocrossing. The major change was a limited slip Ford rear running 4:11 and a overdrive unit. The work done was first rate and the end result was a car that performed better than it did when it was a factory race car. The engine was the original factory race engine but instead of the small twin SU carburetors or the 35 Webers this car car was fitted with the special DBC competition engine with a reputed 214 b.h.p., this was fitted with racing camshafts, special connecting rods, very high compression pistons (possibly 9.5:1) & three twin-choke Weber 45 DCO 3 carburettors. Where a normal Aston reached 60 mph from a stop in 9 seconds. We clocked this car to 60 in six seconds flat. From what I heard he still has the car so if you are cruising in South Florida and a grey haired guy in a grey Aston Martin embarases you late model super car, stop and say hi for me. UK-based luxury automaker Aston Martin’s recent recall debacle in which it falsely accused a Chinese supplier (not even associated with the company) raises questions about auto supply chain management. The chief executive of Renault Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, has said that manufacturers in Russia are facing a “bloodbath” because of the plunge in the value of the rouble.
The currency has been dropping steadily for several months, but suffered very sharp falls earlier this week.
The two firms have stopped taking orders for some new models and raised prices on others.
Several rival manufacturers have taken similar steps.
However, Mr Ghosn said he was confident the situation would stabilise, eventually.

“We didn’t do it [suspend orders] overall, just on some models we said, ‘Sorry, until we see where this situation is going we don’t take orders,'” he told reporters in Tokyo.

The French-Japanese Renault-Nissan alliance is a major player in Russia’s car industry.
Not only does it sell vehicles under its own brands, it also controls the domestic manufacturer Avtovaz, better known as the maker of Lada cars.
Mr Ghosn said the group had suspended taking orders for some models, this included cars made in Russia, but also those which used large quantities of imported parts. Orders already placed would be honoured, he said.
Other manufacturers have been taking similar steps in response to the decline of the rouble, which has halved in value against the dollar this year.
General Motors, Audi and Jaguar Land Rover also suspended deliveries to Russian dealers earlier this week.
If car sales in Russia do continue to decline, it could affect British manufacturing. Nissan says about 10% of the cars made at its Sunderland plant are exported to the region.
“I certainly think there could be a potential impact on Nissan’s operations in the UK,” said David Bailey, professor of industry at Aston Business School.
“It sells for example the Qashqai model in large numbers in Russia.”
He said it could also have an impact on the premium end of Jaguar Land Rover, “albeit far less than in the case of Nissan” Video Rating: / 5

DETROIT — Honda Motor Co is recalling nearly 900,000 Odyssey minivans that could catch fire, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall notice.
In a March 13 filing with the NHTSA, Honda said 2005-2010 Odysseys built in Alabama have a fuel-pump part that could crack and cause a fuel leak, increasing the risk of fire. The company said it has no reports of fires or injuries related to the problem.
Because the recall involves 886,815 Odyssey vans, Honda said the proper repair parts won’t be available until summer. In the meantime, it will provide “interim” parts to customers, who will be notified beginning in April.
Honda said it had investigated several potential causes of cracks in the fuel-pump strainer cover, including acid from chemicals found in car washes and low-PH materials used in fertilizer and dust control agents.
The fuel pump modules were made in the United States by Japanese supplier Denso, according to Honda.
Honda said the recalled vans were built at its Lincoln, Alabama, plant from June 23, 2004, through September 4, 2010.

“When the vehicles were made at the factory, the fluid that was put in the brake master cylinder had a certain amount of polymers in it, and if that fluid has been replaced with non-factory, non-Toyota brake fluid, it could have less polymers. What happens with the polymers lubricate the seal around the master cylinder. So, if the fluid in there doesn’t have the correct amount of polymers, it’s gonna crimp the seal on the master cylinder, which is gonna cause the fluid to leak slightly out of the master cylinder. So, what potentially could happen if, over a long period of time, if the fluid is leaking out of the master cylinder, it’s gonna become low, and it could affect the breaking.”

Less than a year after it was tarnished by reports of runaway cars, car giant Toyota recalled 1.5 (m) million vehicles on Thursday to address brake-fluid and fuel-pump troubles, drawing new attention to safety issues that have festered inside the company for years.
The world’s No. 1 carmaker said there were no accidents or injuries connected to the latest recall, which covers some Lexus and Toyota models from the 2004 to 2006 model years, mostly in the US and Japan.
Safety experts said it was an example of a new Toyota scrambling to clean up messes from its past.

DETROIT — U.S. safety regulators have determined that only Fiat Chrysler radios have a security flaw that allowed friendly hackers to take control of a Jeep last year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in documents posted online Saturday that it’s ending a five-month investigation into the vulnerabilities of automotive radios.
The agency also said last summer’s recall of 1.4 million Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram vehicles closed the opening that allowed hackers to remotely take over a Jeep Cherokee.
The hack by security experts Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek touched off the investigation in July and raised fears that millions of cars and trucks could be vulnerable. They were able to change the Cherokee’s speed and control the brakes, radio, windshield wipers and transmission through the Uconnect infotainment system.
The hackers informed Fiat Chrysler of their findings and detailed them at a cyber conference, triggering the investigation.
But the fear of widespread vulnerability to hackers appears to be unfounded. NHTSA investigators said in documents that similar radios made by Harman International went to Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley, but that those vehicles have safety systems that would stop hackers.
“Based on a thorough review of technical information supplied during the course of this investigation, there does not appear to be a reason to suspect that the infotainment head units Harman supplied to other vehicle manufacturers contain the vulnerabilities identified by FCA,” NHTSA said in the documents.
In addition, the agency said Sprint, Fiat Chrysler’s wireless provider, blocked access to a radio communications port that was unintentionally left open. The FCA recall also included software changes that thwarted hackers, the agency said.
“Third party security evaluation and regression testing identified vulnerabilities that were either remedied by Sprint or through updates to the FCA Uconnect software,” the agency said.
NHTSA also checked 30 consumer complaints to the company and the agency but could not confirm that hackers caused any of the reported problems.
