The Event Is Coming Soon – “Smart” Meters Recalls, Replacements, Fires, Explosions, General Failure, Measurement Errors, Privacy Concerns, Cybersecurity Risks, and Sick People

In 2011, Consumers Digest predicted that “Smart” Meters “represents little more than a boondoggle that is being foisted on consumers by the politically influential companies”: “Why Smart Meters Might Be a Dumb Idea.”

So it’s not all that surprising that so far – hundreds of thousands of “Smart” Meters have been recalled and/or replaced throughout North America due to various reasons including fires, explosions, general failure, and measurement errors. There are utility companies who are already making plans to replace hundreds of thousands more.

All over the world, concerned citizens, elected officials, and organizations have been fighting to keep “Smart” Meters out of their communities due to health, safety, privacy, and cybersecurity concerns. When they haven’t been able to completely stop utilities, they fight for the right to “opt out” of “Smart Meters” being installed on their homes and businesses.

Even proponents who originally gushed about “Smart” Meters seem to have changed their tune. One example is Sara Jerome of Water Online:

As a member of the EMF Safety Network, I have been fighting against Smart Meters since 2010 in California.  I became extremely concerned about the potential for them to be weaponized to kill people because of my military training in radiation as a weapon of war.

  5. Bryan Davis says:

Gotta up grade electric box. For some reason mine over rode the main breaker. Should have shut down the main breaker but did not. Blew one breaker to my outside lights and shook the whole house light's going crazy but never shut the main breaker. The light outside caught fire before blowing the breaker.. I probably should have been told to upgrade before it was installed. They just came out and did it without my knowledge??

We live in/near Phx, AS and are building a house. Are fighting APS (arizona public services) over their insistance on installing a smart meter. They say if we want power, we have no choice.
Fortunately we are building with our own money, and there is no bank to issue directives, (ultimatums), to us. [We decided to save up so that we could building this way 15 years ago so that we could take more control of our lives away from "them".]
Our option? This is AS! Solar power and a generator for emergencies.
    No choice my ass!
